About one hundred gunmen reportedly stormed Keta town Police Station, Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State and kidnapped the Divisional Police Officer and three others.
According to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified gunmen also carted away weapons in custody of the police station.
An eye witness who simply identified himself as Malam Muhammadu, said about one hundred armed men invaded Kwarin Ganuwa village allegedly with the mission to kidnap the district head who sneaked into the bush, adding that the armed men seized mobile handsets from victims.
He said two people in Kwarin Ganuwa who refused to hand over their handsets were shot dead by the gunmen, adding that crimes of all sorts are being committed against the people including married women and spinsters in the town.
Another eyewitness, Alhaji Bello of Keta town who corroborated Muhammadu’s account said the bandits proceeded to Keta town where they overpowered policemen on duty, and carted away weapons as well as abducted the DPO alongside three other officers.
Our correspondent reports that there about one and a half years ago, there was an attack on Kizara, a village near Keta town where fifty-eight people were killed.
As at the time of compiling this report, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Shehu Muhammad of the state Command declined comment.
