The impacts of insecurity on exploration and exploitation of mineral resources in the country will top talks at the 56th Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) to be declared open in Ibadan, on Tuesday March 16, 2021, by the Grand Patron of the Society, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari.
The 30th President of NMGS, Engineer Obadiah Simon Nkom who is also the Director- General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) made this known yesterday during the 2020/2021 Pre-Annual Press Conference of the Society held at Geology Department of University of Ibadan.
While saying that “annually, the Society selects topical and trending societal issues that affect the practice of the profession in particular and the nation in general,” the president said other dignitaries expected at the conference include the Executive Governor of Oyo State, who is also the Host, Engr. Seyi Makinde and other South West Governors.
“This year’s theme: ‘Responsible Exploration and Exploitation of Mineral Resources in a Secured Environment,’ provides the platform for resourceful contribution from scholars and experts in relevant fields of endeavor to proffer solution to such societal challenges.”
He said the Conference, which is scheduled to hold from 14th to 19th March, 2021 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan is hybrid in nature with various programmes which include Pre- Conference Panel discussions, the 56th Annual AGM of the Society and Admission and Induction of 630 new members into the Society among other programmes.
