The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Afenifere, has appointed three new officers to strengthen its operations.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the body, Comrade Jare Ajayi, indicated that the new Secretary General is Agbaakin Ademola Babatunde Folarin while the new Treasurer is Alagba Dare Babarinsa.
The new Financial Secretary is Barrister Lanre Omisore.
According to the statement, the new appointees are to join the officers who are already occupying one position or the other for the organization.
They are Abagun Kole Omololu, National Organisation Secretary, Dr. Akin Onigbinde, SAN, Legal Adviser and Comrade Jare Ajayi, National Publicity Secretary.
The appointments were made by The National Leader of the body, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, at the commencement of Caucus meeting that took place in his residence at Akure, Ondo State capital on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The appointments were ratified by the Caucus.
Another important announcement made concerning the appointments was that of former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, whose appointment as Chairman, Reconciliation Committee, was further ratified.
Ajayi noted that in the tradition of Afenifere, The Leader has the prerogative to appoint officers to run the affairs of the organization.
The new Secretary General, Folarin, is a lawyer of over four decades standing and is a philanthropist not given to noise-making. He holds the chieftaincy title of Agbaakin Mayegun of Ibadanland.
His law chamber is based in Lagos. A Yoruba patriot who prefers to operate behind the scene, matters Yorubania occupy prominent position in his heart.
Alagba Babarinsa, the new Treasurer, is a well-known journalist who has been in practice for more than 40 years.
He was among the pioneer staff members of the defunct Concord newspaper and a founding member of Tell magazine, among others.
Barrister Omisore is a seasoned lawyer, who had practiced in the United Kingdom.
Ajayi, Afenifere spokesman, quoted The Leader, Pa Fasoranti, as saying that the appointments took immediate effect.
