Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company (AEEPCO), the operator of the NNPC/Aiteo Joint Venture on OML 29, has confirmed the resumption of production at its Nembe Oilfield asset in Bayelsa.
This announcement comes days after an oil leak was reported on the asset.
In a statement released on Saturday, AEEPCO indicated that production activities resumed following the completion of a joint investigative visit to the spill site by all relevant stakeholders, as mandated by regulatory requirements.
“AEEPCO will reopen its facilities for production while continuing other statutory spill management protocols concurrently,” the statement read.
Victor Okoronkwo, AEEPCO’s Group Managing Director, provided an update on the situation, stating that a thorough assessment of the operations and assets on the oilfield had been conducted.
“After a comprehensive evaluation of our operations and infrastructure at the Nembe Swamp Field, we are delighted to confirm the resumption of production activities,” Okoronkwo stated.
He said: “Our dedicated team has worked diligently to address the issues caused by the recent incident and implemented enhanced safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.”
Okoronkwo emphasized that AEEPCO had engaged with regulatory bodies, local communities, and stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.
The company promised that all necessary measures were in place to mitigate future risks and maintain safe operations.
