All Set for the Coronation of Chief Adebesin Adeleke as Osi-Oba Mayegun of Orile Ikopa Egba Land

 

Orile Ikopa, Ogun State, and the ancient town of Orile Ikopa Egba Land are buzzing with excitement and anticipation as final preparations are underway for the coronation of Chief Adebesin Adeleke as the Osi-Oba Mayegun, one of the highest traditional titles in the region. The event, which is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, marks a significant moment in the history of the Egba people.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Orile Ikopa Palace grounds, the coronation ceremony will be a display of cultural heritage, with traditional drumming, dancing, and performances by local masquerades. The town has been adorned with banners and decorations, and the streets are lined with vendors selling traditional attire and local delicacies in preparation for the influx of visitors.

Chief Adeleke, a respected leader and philanthropist, has been recognized for his contributions to the development of the Egba community and his commitment to preserving its rich cultural traditions. His coronation as Osi-Oba Mayegun, a title that signifies his role as a protector and promoter of peace and culture, has been widely welcomed by the people of Orile Ikopa.

Chief Adebesin Adeleke was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Adebesin over four decades ago. He had his primary education at African Church Primary School. Oke-Igbore, where he proceeded to Methodist High School, Ogbe Abeokuta. As part of his vision and zeal to become a visionary leader, he enrolled at Tai Solarin University of Education (The premier university of education in Nigeria). He graduated in 2004.
In an interview ahead of the ceremony, Chief Adeleke expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Orile Ikopa for their support. “It is an honor to be chosen for this revered title. I am committed to serving our community and ensuring that our traditions continue to thrive,” he said.
The coronation ceremony is expected to draw a large crowd, including traditional rulers, political figures, and representatives from various cultural organizations.

Security has been heightened in the area, with local authorities working to ensure the safety of all attendees. Transportation arrangements have also been made to accommodate the expected guests, with shuttle services available from neighboring towns.
