APC reacts over Rotimi Amaechi’s comments on hardship

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, for his recent comments criticizing Nigerian youths for not protesting the rising cost of living in the country.

In a strongly worded statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described Amaechi’s remarks as “irresponsible and unpatriotic.”

Morka accused Amaechi of attempting to incite unrest, calling his criticism “insensitive and hypocritical,” given his extensive political career, which includes serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two terms as Governor, and two terms as Minister.

The APC spokesperson labeled Amaechi a “political freeloader” and suggested that his criticism stemmed from frustration over being out of power.

“Attempting to deceive Nigerians with false empathy and incitement to violence is provocative and dangerous,” Morka said, adding that Amaechi’s comments reflect the frustration of opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are not in government.

The APC further accused Amaechi and other opposition leaders of failing to improve the country’s economy during their time in office while now positioning themselves as critics of the current administration.

The party urged Nigerians to reject what it termed Amaechi’s “call to anarchy” and remain patient as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government implements reforms aimed at transforming the economy. “Weaponizing protest and exploiting citizens’ economic discomfort for selfish political gain is irresponsible and unpatriotic,” Morka concluded.

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering economic reforms and called on Nigerians to support the government’s efforts toward lasting improvements for the country.
