Engineer Frank Odoom has resumed office as Acting Director, Department of Mines Inspectorate, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. His appointment took effect from April 1, 2019.
Before his current appointment, Engr Odoom was the Deputy Project Coordinator of the World Bank-assisted Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification project (MinDiver).
The COREN-registered mining engineer who earned eminence for his professional contribution to the development of the industry joined the Federal Civil Service in April 1996. He rose through the ranks to be appointed Acting Director while successfully dispensing various responsibilities.
While the appointment is being popularly commended as meritorious, stakeholders believe that his leadership of the Regulatory Department will significantly contribute to the realisation of economic diversification through the mining sector.
Analysts further agree that the remarkably young engineer has earned the confidence of stakeholders through his professional antecedents in the country’s mining sector. Engr. Odoom had served as Team Leader of the Ministerial Task Force on Illegal Mining and Head, Explosives Division of the Mines Inspectorate, before he was seconded to the World Bank project as Deputy Coordinator in 2017. He has a wide-range of experience that will be harnessed for greater development of the Nigerian Mining sector.
