CAF have called on Egypt to host this year’s U20 AFCON back-to-back after Cote d’Ivoire surprisingly pulled out of staging the biennial tournament.
Egypt hosted the 2023 edition of the competition.
The 2025 U20 AFCON is billed to kick off on April 26, but with the sudden withdrawal of Cote d’Ivoire as hosts may now be delayed to allow Egypt come to the rescue.
The Flying Eagles qualified for the tournament after they won the WAFU B qualifiers in Togo last year.
They are drawn in a tough-looking first round group along with Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.
The top four teams in this competition will represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile in October.
