The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD), in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Northwest Zonal Command, on the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice project, will begin a three-day capacity-building workshop for sexual and gender-based violence stakeholders in Kano, Kano State, starting from November 12, 2024. The training, which aims to strengthen the skills of the Hisbah, Police, Women Development Officers and other key stakeholders in addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), is targeted at key local government areas in Kano State.
A statement released by Mr. Essien Nyong, the project focal person for the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice at Centre LSD, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “This training is key to bolstering our collective fight against gender-based violence within communities in Kano State”. By equipping these stakeholders with knowledge and the right skills, we are building a network of first responders who can provide immediate, knowledgeable assistance to victims and help restore their confidence, he added.
He noted that the training is being organized in response to the need for first responders who engage closely with communities to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support SGBV survivors. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of SGBV-related issues, the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP Act), and best practices for responding to cases of gender-based violence.
The public is encouraged to follow updates from this training through all Centre LSD’s social media channels.
