TRADE between China and Africa has shown steady growth in the first seven months of 2024, with trade volume reaching 1.19 trillion yuan (about $166.6bn), marking a 5.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
China has maintained its position as Africa’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, demonstrating the enduring strength of this economic relationship. In 2023, China-Africa trade hit a record high of $282.1bn, a 1.5 percent increase from the previous year.
Notably, China’s exports of new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products to Africa have seen substantial growth, with increases of 291 percent, 109 percent, and 57 percent, respectively, compared to last year. On the other hand, China has also boosted its imports of African agricultural products, with significant rises in nuts (130 percent), vegetables (32 percent), flowers (14 percent), and fruits (7 percent).
These figures highlight the resilience and expanding scope of China-Africa trade, reflecting deepening economic ties and the diversification of traded.
