Communique issued by CORBON following the 123rd Council Meeting in Abuja

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED FOLLOWING THE 123RD COUNCIL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF REGISTERED BUILDERS OF NIGERIA HELD AT THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA

The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) held its 123rd meeting on Thursday August 15, 2024 at its Headquarters in Abuja and:

  1. Commended His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Bldr.) Francis Nwifuru, FNIOB, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State on assenting to three laws to guide the orderly development of the built environment. The laws are:
  2. Ebonyi State Physical Planning Permit Regulations Law, 2024.
  3. Ebonyi State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2024.
  4. Ebonyi State Building Control Regulation Law, 2024.

Council further enjoins all other State Governments to enact such laws and establish professionally manned building control agencies;

  1. Commended Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, FNIA, the Honourable Minister for Housing and Urban Development on the steps taken towards addressing building collapse across the country and further asserts the recommendations made to Government at all levels (earlier released by the Council Chairman) remain a veritable way of stemming the embarrassingly rising tide across the nation;
  2. Commended the proactive actions taken by the Council Chairman in the light of recent frequent incidences of building collapse in the country;
  3. Approved the accreditation of undergraduate Building programmes in the following six universities for a period of five years:
    1. Imo State University, Owerri;
    2. Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State;
    3. University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos;
    4. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife;
    5. Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi; and
    6. Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Agbani, Enugu State.
  4. Approved the adoption of the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) for the registration of Building Technologists, Technicians and Artisans by the Council and creation of their Registers appropriately;
  5. Approved the outcome of the recently conducted application cycle where 105 (One Hundred and Five) applicants qualified for registration out of 152 (One Hundred and Fifty-Two) applicants shortlisted;
  6. Commends the use of Builders Management Portal (BuMaP) acknowledging visits by almost 10,000 users from 15 countries spread across every continent, and encourages Builders to constantly visit the Portal and other social media handles of the Council; and
  7. Approved the commemoration of thirty-five (35) years of existence of CORBON.
