The National Judicial Council, NJC, headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has set up a panel to probe some Justices of the Federal and State High Courts involved in conflicting and frivolous rulings in political cases rocking Rivers State.

The probe panel is being headed by a former Justice of the Court of Appeal with two heads of courts as members.

The CJN, Justice Kekere-Ekun on Monday, October 28, 2024 held a crucial meeting with the members of the panel in her office during which she directed that the probe should commence immediately and the report submitted this week.

The CJN also directed that all judges involved in the multiple cases arising from the unending political crisis in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, should be summoned by the probe panel.

The CJN specifically summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court who is to be questioned on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 with regards to the judgements emanating from the Federal High Court that are causing legal ripples.

Further checks indicated that some stakeholders and legal luminaries have raised eyebrows over some of the judgements on Rivers State just as a couple of complaints were tabled before the National Judicial Council which must have prompted the CJN to order a comprehensive probe arising from the public concerns over the court cases.
