Ahead of today, (Sunday), commencement of the first Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) distribution by Dangote Refinery, oil marketers have expressed worries that they are yet to know the price of the product.
The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association, PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry and the President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi disclosed this in separate interviews on Saturday.
Their comments come as all is now set for Dangote Refinery to offload its first petrol trucks into the Nigerian market.
Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company said that over 300 of its trucks were at Dangote Refinery on Saturday to load Petrol.
The development has received commendations from Nigerians, including Petrol Marketers.
However, Gillis-Harry raised concerns that the stakeholders in the sector transparently should be told the price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol.
“We heard rumors that an insider gave a price hint and we said that is where have a problem.
“We cannot be dealing with business clandestinely. Let the industry know what is going on. This product is made in Nigeria and produced by Dangote.
“We are very proud of that. So let Nigerians start to have it in their cars at an affordable price.
“We already have petrol at N870 per liter price from NNPCL. If we can see that product cheaper, why not, we will be happy to see that”, he said.
Similarly, Maigandi when asked about the price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol said, “We can’t say the price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol now.
“When NNPCL starts loading on Sunday, we will know. We are sure that the product will be available. The price for now we are not sure what it will look like”.
Meanwhile, sources from the oil and gas sector claimed that the price of Dangote Refinery petrol may be around N766 per liter.
