The Wife of the Ebonyi Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, on Monday commiserated with the victims of Thursday gas explosion in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN report that the gas explosion which occurred on Thursday at the Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha, in the state claimed lives of two students while eight other students with severe burns are receiving treatment at the hospital.
THE TRUTH also gathered that a total of 10 girls undergoing training in the school were initially hospitalised in the Hospital.
Nwifuru, who visited Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, appealed to the medical personnel to do their best to ensure that they recovered from the injuries sustained.
She donated N2 million through her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced, as support for their drugs and other incentives.
The wife of the governor also assisted Anita Afamuefuna, a 9-year-old girl with N2 million for surgical operation.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Robinson Onoh, said the medical experts were committed to ensuring that the patients get all the necessary treatment.
Onoh, who was represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, (CMAC) of the hospital, Dr Uchenna Nwedu, said 10 victims brought in on Oct 17, and 18 were receiving treatment in the Accident and Emergency Burns and plastic unit of the hospital.
“One was discharged after 24 hours admission while two died due to severe burns, six of them have major burns injury, more than 60 per cent affectation and they have been receiving and responding to treatment,” Nwedu said.
On her part Mrs Grace Nwankwoagu, Anita’s grandmother, while appreciating Mrs Nwifuru for her financial support, said that they have been admitted in the hospital since three months.
