Explosion: Ex-President Buhari visits Jigawa, donates N10m to victims

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, has visited Jigawa on Tuesday, to commiserate with the people and victims of Majia tanker explosion, which claimed many lives.

In a short speech during the visit, Buhari expressed dismay over the tragic incident and prayed for solace to the bereaved families.

While praying to God to prevent future occurrence, the ex-president also prayed to Almighty to forgive the shortcomings of those who lost their lives.

Responding, Gov. Umar Namadi, appreciated the ex-president for not only the visit but also the concern shown to the people of the state while in trying period.

Namadi, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Gumel, assured that the state government was working hard to prevent similar happening in future.

The governor announced that Buhari had donated the sum of N10 million to the victims.
Namadi pledged that the donation would be judiciously utilised for the benefit of the victims.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ex-president and his entourage had earlier visited Reshid Shekoni hospital, Dutse and sympathised with the survivors.

The former president was accompanied during the visit by the former Ministers of Aviation, Alhaji Hadi Sirika and that of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Ali Pantami, among other dignitaries.

It could be recalled that Majia town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa had witnessed a devastating tanker explosion few weeks ago, which claimed over 100 lives.

Some of the survivors are still receiving medical attention at various hospitals across Kano, Jigawa and Yobe states. (NAN)
