Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum, the wife of Borno governor, on Wednesday disbursed N30 million cash and food items to 600 Christian widows and orphans as Christmas welfare packages.
The governor’s wife made the presentation of the packages to the beneficiaries on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
Zulum said that the initiative was an extension of her felicitation to Christian faithful, especially the widows and the orphans, ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
She, however, emphasised the need for continued peace and harmony in the state while reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable population.
Zulum announced that each beneficiary would receive a sum of N50,000 cash, a 25kg bag of rice, 5 litres of cooking oil, and a carton of macaroni.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, commended the governor’s wife for supporting the vulnerable groups.
She said that the Zulum’s administration had prioritised inclusivity and remained steadfast in providing the welfare of all citizens.
One of the beneficiaries, Esther Bwala, expressed her gratitude for the timely intervention, saying the gesture would help her celebrate Christmas with joy and dignity.
