The Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr Simon Nkom has commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak for showing interest in mining and the solid minerals development of the state.
Engr. Nkom who gave the commendation during the visit of the governor to the Headquarters of the Mining Cadastre Office, Abuja, assured that the federal government is ready to collaborate with states on mining development.
The DG, while also assuring the Governor of support towards mineral development in the state, explained that the agency is saddled with the responsibility of administering mineral titles in Nigeria. He pointed out that the objective of the MCO is to ensure mining development in all states of the federation by way of issuance of mineral titles.
A statement signed by the Head, Press, MCO, Folashade Fatoke made available to our correspondent quoted the Director General as saying: “Evidently, licenses are the deliverables of the Mining Cadastre Office with key objective to ensure mining development in states and Nigeria at large.”
Governor Abdulrazak who thanked the Director General for the warm reception accorded him despite short notice, explained that the visit is to engage the Mining Cadastre Office for appropriate support on how to move Kwara State forward in mineral development.
He said Kwara State government is willing and ready to work in close collaboration with the Government towards improving its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Infrastructural development and Wealth creation. He added that there is need to drive the Kwara State Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to improve mining activities and investment, saying that by this, more employment opportunities will be created for the teeming youth as well as diversifying from mono-economy.
