Ghanaian Church celebrates 20 girls for remaining virgins

A district of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ghana has presented monetary gifts to 20 virgin girls.

GhanaWeb reported that the Wenchi West District of the Mid-West Ghana Conference, Bono Region, celebrated the recipients aged 13 to 16 at a Special Thanksgiving Service over the weekend.

According to the report, the girls received undisclosed sums of money for their maintenance in an effort led by the Young Adventist Women Ministries to encourage moral integrity, rooted in Christian and cultural values.

The report quoted the Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, Wenchi West District, Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, as lauding the girls for keeping their virginity and encouraging them to do so until marriage.

She emphasised the importance of keeping Godly friends.

“God created you uniquely beautiful and you must not allow anybody to lure and break your virginity until you marry,” Poku said.

She added, “The ancient Bragoro or Dipo rite was very essential in preserving girls’ virginity and controlling teenage pregnancies inimical to the growth and development of young girls and women.”
