The Ojo Chapter of the Labour Party in Lagos on Wednesday suspended Mr Seyi Sowunmi, the lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for three months.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Oluwanifemi Elegbede, the Chairman and Mrs Blessing Okafor, Secretary of the party, in Ojo, Lagos.

They said that the lawmaker was suspended because of his refusal to appear before the disciplinary panel of the party after 24 hours of summons.

They said that the disciplinary committee of the party had earlier summoned Sowunmi on Aug. 26, 2024, to appear before the Ojo Labour Party Disciplinary Committee within 24 hours.

“But there was no response from him or his office within the stipulated time.

“This, the party leadership has tagged insubordination to the party coupled with Sowunmi’s refusal to work with the existing leadership of the Labour Party in Ojo,” they said.

The statement said that following the findings and documents made available to the disciplinary committee, they were able to deduce the following:

“Your refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee as requested in the summons shows gross insubordination to the party (Article 20(B3).

“Not attending any ward meeting which you claim to be a member of.

“As both Ward A and D of Ojo LGA, Labour Party, have sent in letters prior to now, stating that you are not a registered member of their wards.

“This is against the party constitution, Article 20(B5).

“Your refusal to work with the existing party leadership at all levels and attempt to remove constituted party leadership at all levels without going through the lay-down procedure as provided in the party constitution (Article 20(B7).

“Taking the party to court without exhausting all constitutionally provided internal dispute resolution mechanism.

“Based on the recommendations from the disciplinary committee, Ojo Labour Party hereby suspends you from the party for a period of three months with immediate effect,” the statement said.
