In an aggressive crackdown on illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta, troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army have intensified operations, leading to significant successes.
According to Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 6 Division, Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the ongoing efforts have resulted in the destruction of over 27 newly established illegal refining sites and the confiscation of more than 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
He said during recent operations, troops from the 29 Battalion targeted the notorious Imo River area, a known hotspot for illegal activities.
Danjuma added that they successfully dismantled 23 newly established illegal refining sites and seized 80,000 litres of stolen crude from two storage reservoirs.
He said three vehicles loaded with approximately 8,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil were confiscated.
In a separate operation at Cowthorne Channel II, Degema Local Government Area, troops from the 16 Brigade, in collaboration with other security agencies, uncovered and destroyed four illegal refining sites, along with three metal drums and pits containing around 6,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, commended the troops for their relentless efforts in dismantling these illegal operations.
He urged them to maintain the integrity of oil pipelines, ensuring that oil companies can operate without disruptions.
He also called on host communities to continue providing credible intelligence to support the ongoing efforts to curb illegal bunkering in the region.
