Nigerian Pastor, Bolaji Idowu arraigned in Police custody for alleged ₦1.5b fraud, money laundering

Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), Bolaji Idowu, is reportedly in the custody of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja for allegations of a ₦1.5 billion real estate fraud and money laundering case.

A report by GWG said that Pastor Bolaji Idowu, known for his influential ministry, was being interrogated by authorities regarding the alleged fraud.

The report quoted police sources to have said that Pastor Idowu would remain in detention as investigations unfolded.

A senior official at the FCID disclosed, “Pastor Bolaji Idowu, widely recognized for his Next Level Prayer Conference, is under investigation concerning real estate fraud and money laundering allegations.”

The case reportedly originated from one of his pastors, who is accused of defrauding individuals in a real estate scheme.

Investigations showed that large sums of money, amounting to billions of naira, were funnelled through accounts linked to Pastor Idowu’s church and later traced to his personal account.

A source confirmed, “Evidence points to billions being connected to both the church and his personal accounts.”

Pastor Bolaji Idowu established Harvesters International Christian Centre in December 2003.

Since its inception, the church has grown into a prominent religious organization with branches in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The church, according to its official website, welcomes over 70,000 worshippers both in person and online weekly.

Apart from leading the church, Pastor Idowu oversees the “Next Level Prayers” initiative, which aims to encourage spiritual growth and strengthen prayer lives.

This platform has garnered significant attention, further cementing his influence in the religious community.

The allegations of fraud have sent shockwaves across the congregation Pastor Bolaji Idowu supervises and beyond.

Meanwhile, investigation continues into the pastor’s alleged involvement in the financial misconduct.
