- Says Kanu angry about today’s killing of army officers in the South East
The head of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is being held captive by the Department of State Service (DSS). Ohaneze Ndigbo Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president of the organization, paid him a visit.
Along with appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use political means to guarantee Mazi Kanu’s immediate release and acquittal of all charges against him, Chief Iwuanyanwu led a number of the Ohaneze’s most prominent leaders.
Soon after the visit on Thursday, Chief Iwuanyanwu gave an interview to the media from his home in Abuja. He also shared the outcome of his conversation with the IPOB leader, whom he claimed was in good spirits.
According to him, “Kanu asked me to tell Nigerians that he is against the killing of some Soldiers in the South East today, as well as other killing being reported in some parts of Igboland. He is totally against the destruction of lives and properties going on. He further stated that it is time to stop discouraging our kids from taking their WAEC exams since it is needless.”
Chief Iwuanyanwu urged President Ahmed Tinubu to find a political solution to release Kanu, stating that all Nigerian courts have found him not guilty. He questioned why Kanu should continue to be detained when other freedom fighters with similar cases but with lesser charges have been released.
“Nnamdi Kanu, like many other Nigerian children, has expressed their disappointment because they believe they lack opportunities, they believe there is discrimination, and they feel that things are not going the way they should go,” he said, expressing his views about the need for national restructuring.
“So it is not only Nnamdi Kanu, that has asked for the restructuring of Nigeria and let’s go back to history and see that we have been talking about the restructuring of this country because it has failed to work. Adaka Borro, a Niger Delta native who was eventually drafted into the Nigerian Army, made this move. So it is all about making Nigeria work and that has to be done before all this agitation, stops”.
