The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) will deploy its technical expertise to ensure thorough investigation of the recent explosion which occurred at Ilu Abo, near Akure, Ondo State. The Director-General of the Agency, Dr Garba Abdulrazaq has said, adding that the Nigeria Police Force deserves commendation for effort being made to unravel issues responsible for the explosion.
In a statement signed by the Director General made available to our correspondent, he lauded the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu for setting up the Joint Investigations Team to probe the issues surrounding the explosion, while assuring the Inspector General of the full compliment of the Century old Nigerian Geological Survey Agency’s technical and human resources.
The Director General however called for caution from the scientific community and others, to refrain from making public statements on the matter, as it is now squarely a police investigation.
He also stated that all samples recovered from the site should be turned in, to the investigation team to enable a robust understanding of the incident that happened.
On behalf of the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, the Agency’s supervising Ministry, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite, the Director-General assured Nigerians that their findings will be scientific and and would involve necessary stakeholders for an all-encompassing submission to be made.
Dr Garba further assured that at the end of the investigation, a report presenting the fact of events that took place, will be presented for a better understanding of the public.
