PCNGI to reduce Abuja airport taxi fares by 30%

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) has announced plans to significantly reduce taxi fares for services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by 30%.

This initiative comes after the signing of an agreement with Airport Taxi Operators to convert 800 vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Director and Chief Executive of PCNGI, made the announcement during the agreement signing ceremony on Tuesday in Abuja.

He emphasized that the fare reduction aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to convert one million commercial vehicles in an effort to alleviate the impact of rising fuel prices on transportation costs.

“Once we achieve a 50% conversion, approximately 400 vehicles, the 30% fare discount will take effect immediately,” Oluwagbemi, represented by Programme Execution Coordinator Mr. Folarin Oworo, stated.

The discount will vary depending on the distance traveled, with the 30% reduction applied to current fare rates. A pricing card indicating fares and applicable discounts will be displayed in each vehicle according to passenger destinations. To ensure compliance and effectiveness of the program, regular monitoring will be conducted.
