As part of efforts to maximize the deliverables of its collaboration with Curtain University, Western Australia, on age dating of rocks and minerals in Nigeria (otherwise known as Geochronology), the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) has trained relevant staff as well as selected some rock samples from Nigeria to be sent to the Australian partners for geochronological analysis. The collaboration will engender transfer of scientific knowledge and technology in mineral exploration.
The final selection of rock samples was made from a pilled stock sourced from some parts of the country.
Earlier, the Director-General, NGSA, Dr. Abdulrazaq Garba who was represented by the Director, National Geoscience Information Center, Mrs. Bola Akinwande explained that through geochronology, the ages of the rocks would be known, adding that it would subsequently enable experts to scientifically ascertain the mineralization that could be found in the regions where the samples were picked from. This, he said will enable the Agency to explore the country for minerals with certainty.
