The Police Command in Lagos State says it has detained two suspected members of a syndicate specialising in vehicle brainbox vandalism and theft.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed their detention for questioning to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.
Hundeyin said a complainant reported an alleged vandalism and theft of his vehicle’s brainbox to the command’s tactical team in the Surulere area of Lagos on July 31 at about 11.40 a.m.
According to the police spokesperson, the complainant’s vehicle was parked in an unnamed estate at Surulere, Lagos State.
“The man said some unknown suspects came to their estate on July 31, at about 3.00 a.m., to vandalise their vehicles and cart away several brainboxes, including other valuable vehicle parts.
“Based on the strength of the complaint, detectives swung into action to get the suspected thieves arrested.
“On Aug. 3, detectives traced the suspects to Ilewe Junction, Ikotun area of the state, and arrested a 47-year-old man, simply identified as Jefferson.
“One Donatus, 45, was also traced to Idowu Street, Ajegunle, on Aug. 10, where he was arrested.
“Both suspects confessed to the crime,” he told NAN.
Hundeyin further said an operational vehicle, a red-coloured Toyota Camry with Reg. No. FKL 260 JJ, a police beret, and a pair of handcuffs were recovered from the suspects.
He said that efforts were on to catch up with other fleeing members of the gang.
