The police have released from.their custody, musician and social media buff, Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington.
His release came after spending five days in detention, a development that had generated flaks from netizens.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, announced his release on X on Tuesday night.
Adeyanju earlier said his client was arrested in Lagos last Friday and then transferred to Abuja.
According to him, Speed Darlington’s detention was occasioned by a formal complaint filed by singer Burna Boy.
He was accused of defaming and cyberstalking the Grammy Award winner.
In his post on X, Adeyanju appreciated those who contributed to the singer’s release and commended the police for their professionalism.
He wrote, “Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore , super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today.”
Recall that Speed Darlington, in a video made some weeks ago, had asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammys for his album Twice As Tall.
He made side swipes at his affiliation with the embattled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
