President Bola Tinubu held his maiden presidential media chat Monday night at his Bourdillon residence, Ikoyi, Lagos, declaring he had no regrets removing petrol subsidy.
Fielding questions from the panel of journalists, Tinubu insisted Nigeria could not continue to be Father Christmas to neighbouring countries.
“I don’t have any regrets whatsoever in removing petrol subsidy. We are spending our future. We were just deceiving ourselves, and that reform was necessary.
“The market is being saturated. No monopoly, no oligopoly, a free market economy flowing.”
Asked if he would consider price control in the face of daily escalation of prices of essential commodities, the President reacted thus: “I don’t believe in price control. We will work hard to supply the market.”
