President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, describing him as a multifaceted giant whose contributions spanned sports, business, politics, and philanthropy.

In a statement released on Friday, Tinubu mourned the passing of the former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who died on July 25, 2024, at the age of 81.

Highlighting Chief Iwuanyanwu’s extensive service to the nation, the President recalled his roles as the founding chairman of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), as well as his chairmanship of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Igbobi, and the Nigerian National Lottery.

Tinubu praised Iwuanyanwu’s resilience and commitment to justice, calling him “courageous, defiant of injustice, and uncompromising.”

He noted the late elder statesman’s significant influence on Nigeria’s sports development, particularly through the Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club (now Heartland F.C.), which Iwuanyanwu founded in 1985 and led to multiple national and international victories.

The President also lauded Iwuanyanwu’s business acumen and philanthropic efforts, recognizing his investments across various sectors and his dedication to community service, which included providing scholarships, building schools, and supporting healthcare initiatives.

As the burial rites for Chief Iwuanyanwu approach, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family, the people of Imo State, and the entire Ndigbo community, while celebrating a life characterized by exceptional achievements and lasting contributions to the nation.

He expressed hope that Iwuanyanwu’s legacy would continue to inspire and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
