The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani yesterday said the Buhari administration will keep its promise of infrastructural development in the Niger Delta region just as it directed a multinational construction company awarded the East-West road project, SETRACO, to immediately repair any damaged section of the road.
The minister gave the marching order on Monday 28th August, 2017, when he received report that a portion of the road was damaged.
Director of Press in the Ministry, Marshall Gundu told our correspondent in Abuja that the Ministry considers the East-West road as strategic to the development of the Niger Delta region, adding that the Minister had assured that the Buhari administration will remain committed to the provision of infrastructure that will enhance multifaceted development of the Niger Delta region, and the nation at large.
Describing a damaged portion of the road, Gundu said: ‘a damaged portion on the East-West Road is less than fifty meters after Kaima Bridge in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State,’ adding that it has caused untold hardship to the commuters.
While urging road users to be patient with the Federal Government, the Minister directed SETRACO to immediately fix it, adding that the contractor has confirmed immediate action, which he said is being monitored by the ministry.
The Niger Delta Minister thanked the public for playing a participatory role in infrastructural development by giving useful feedback to appropriate authorities.
