The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Baratai, has tasked officers and men of the army to deal decisively with criminal elements threatening the country’s security.
The army chief stated this on Thursday in Bauchi while inaugurating 19 newly refurbished war vehicles refurbished by the Armoured Corps of the Army, Bauchi.
According to Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Planning, General Lamidi Adeosun, the army like other arms of the Nigerian military has the mandate of providing external security to Nigeria by protecting its territories.
He, therefore, charged troops to deal decisively with criminals across the nation with a view to restoring peace to the country.
While hailing the Armoured Corps for refurbishing the vehicles, General Buratai promised that the army headquarters is ever ready to support all army formations nationwide to discharge their statutory duties.
Speaking earlier, the Commander of the Armoured Corps, Major General Mohammed Magaji, said the idea to refurbish the war vehicles was aimed at equipping soldiers being sent to the battle field with healthy vehicles to enable them succeed.
According to him, the gesture was in line with the policy of the Nigerian Army to prepare and boost the morale of its personnel to combat terrorists in the country.
He informed that apart from the refurbishing of the vehicles, the Corps had embarked on renovation of some facilities as well as fixed some of its vehicles.
Magaji then lauded the Chief of Army Staff for constructing a 3.2 kilometers access road to the army training range in Bauchi.
