UniAbuja appoints new bursar

Mrs. Shiva Rae M’ovul-Kondoun

The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has announced the appointment of Mrs. Shiva Rae M’ovul-Kondoun as its new Bursar.

A statement issued by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, confirmed that the appointment was ratified by the University’s Governing Council during its 70th Extraordinary Meeting on October 24, 2024. M’ovul-Kondoun will serve a single five-year term in the role.

Shiva, who hails from Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, has an extensive academic and professional background in accounting and finance.

She completed her secondary education at Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, before earning a Diploma in Accounting from the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1987.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Benin (1997) and a Master’s in Business Administration from Benue State University, Makurdi (2005). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Accounting and Finance at the same institution.

M’ovul-Kondoun has participated in numerous national and international professional development programs. These include leadership and governance training at the University of Pittsburgh, USA (2013), as well as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) conferences in the UK (2011) and various World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) events in Rome (2014), Sydney (2018), and Mumbai (2022).

Her career trajectory includes over two decades of experience at Benue State University, where she started as Accountant I in 2001 and rose to Deputy Bursar by 2012. She also served as acting Bursar at the institution between January and August 2021.

Beyond academia, M’ovul-Kondoun has held key positions, such as National Chairman of the Professional Women Accountants in Nigeria (PROWAN) and member of the Governing Council Committee on International Relations and Linkages of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).

She is a Fellow of both the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (CIFCFEN). Additionally, she holds membership with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI) and the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC).

Until her new appointment, M’ovul-Kondoun was the Deputy Bursar in charge of Budget and Expenditure Control at Benue State University, Makurdi.
