A cross section of about 13 youths and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) have resolved to work closely with Extinction Rebellion Abuja (XRAbuja) local group to confront climate change and other environmental issues.
They made the pledge at Chika Community in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) when XRAbuja local group staged its Biodiversity COP15 action
This medium recalls that, Extinction Rebellion is a decentralised, international and politically non-partisan movement using non-violent direct action and civil disobedience to persuade governments to act justly on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Participants were drawn from a coalition of youths and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) under the leadership of Comrade Terkula Ban, who is leading 13 groups.
According to the movement’s Facebook page post made on Sunday, 11th December, 2022 the action focused on several thematic areas.
“Action was a combination of climate change education, biodiversity loss, war against plastic bottles pollution, open defecation and climate smart agriculture in the Nigerian capital city with particular reference to their respective impact on the community” XR Abuja said.
“The stimulating, education, advocacy as well as interactive session was facilitated by XR Abuja Coordinator, Lubem Gena.
“After deliberations, the Comrade Ban thanked XR Abuja for education them on issues that have direct bearing on their lives.
“He stated that some of the strange things were happening around the community but they never knew that climate change is associated with such.
“He therefore promised to open channels for further engagement, participation and also mobilize the over 2000 members of his coalition to join hands is environmental remediation and mitigation activities”.
